Using drivers engineered explicitly for the Ardon speaker kit, this system can provide high output with low distortion. With a large voice coil and powerful motor, the woofer produces deeper bass response and better dynamics than you would expect from such a compact speaker. The high frequencies are handled by a 1-1/8" soft dome tweeter that creates Morel's iconic smooth and detailed treble. Thanks to the excellent driver and crossover integration, the Ardon delivers remarkably flat response through the critical midrange (±1.5 dB from 300 to 7,000 Hz) allowing for realistic and convincing vocal reproduction.
The compact size and surprising output capability makes the Ardon extremely flexible and suitable for a variety of situations. About the Drivers
Designed and built specifically for the Ardon speaker kit, the KW-1 6" damped polymer composite cone woofer from Morel combines an exceptionally smooth response with low distortion. Featuring Morel's lightweight 3" diameter Hexatech aluminum voice coil, the KW-1 can handle up to 150 watts RMS while keeping excursion linear even with the most dynamic material. The low profile damped polymer cone with a rubber surround minimizes cone resonance and breakup for a smooth high-frequency roll-off to create an easy transition to a tweeter. Morel's high flux dual magnet motor system focuses the magnetic field on the voice coil gap to ensure precise control even when driven to the limits of excursion. Finally, with extensive venting through the motor and frame, the KW-1 can dissipate plenty of heat, limiting compression even at high output for extended periods.
Engineered to deliver premium performance in a compact design, the Morel KT-1 1-1/8" soft dome compact tweeter is a perfect match for the woofer. The lightweight 1-1/8" damped fabric dome nearly eliminates unwanted resonances for incredibly flat response from 2,000 to 20,000 Hz, even up to 30° off-axis. A powerful optimized neodymium motor precisely controls the voice coil and diaphragm for low distortion and incredible detail. With a large copper voice coil and aluminum former, the KT-1 can handle up to 80 watts RMS to produce more output than you would expect from a tweeter this small. At only 3" diameter, the center to center distance between the tweeter and woofer/midrange can be kept at a minimum for a seamless transition at the crossover frequency. The KT-1 will provide all of the performance and natural sound you have come to expect from Morel.
About the Enclosure
The locally sourced 3/4" MDF enclosure panels are all CNC milled for tight tolerances ensuring easy enclosure assembly. The vented enclosure is optimized to give extended low-frequency response while controlling excursion to allow high output and power handling. For rigidity, the compact enclosure uses a brace assembly that ties the front, back, top, bottom, and sides together to make for an extremely solid structure that virtually eliminates cabinet resonances. All double rabbeted and dadoed joints make assembly almost effortless, requiring only a few small clamps for a perfect fit. Recesses for flush mounting the tweeter, woofer, and port are pre-cut, making installation a snap.
