The original XLS DriveCore series of amplifiers from Crown was among the most popular amps in the recorded history of mankind. A perfect storm of power, processing, portability, ease of use, sound quality, and incredibly light weight converged to unleash its fury and took the world by storm. After years of research and development, as well as listening to the desires of the end user in the field, Crown is thrilled to introduce the new XLS DriveCore 2 series of power amplifiers. Everything you loved about the originals is still there, plus more control, flexibility, and a few brand new great features -- at the same ridiculously low price!

Crown XLS DriveCore 2 amplifiers now feature a bandpass filter on each channel in addition to the previous low and high pass filters, enabling more precise DSP crossover tuning, loudspeaker matching and system EQ capability. All models allow the front-panel LED indicators (except the clip and thermal indicators) to be turned off if desired, reducing distraction in dark venues. All the amplifiers have selectable input sensitivity of either 1.4 Vrms or 0.775 Vrms, facilitating their use in a wider variety of applications and enabling the amplifiers to be driven at full power regardless of the input source.

DriveCore 2 amplifiers now offer a remote power trigger function, to turn the amp on and off from a distance. The amplifiers feature a display sleep mode that turns the display lighting off after a specified time, and all models provide a security setting that disables the front-panel menu buttons; the menu is locked and unlocked by entering a simple button combination. In addition, a system reset function enables all factory settings to be restored.

Crown XLS DriveCore 2 amplifiers can power 8, 4, or 2 ohm loads and can be bridged for 8 or 4 ohm mono operation. Just as their predecessors, each new model includes Peakx™ limiters that deliver maximum output while protecting the speakers; balanced XLR, 1/4" and RCA inputs; touchproof binding post and speakON outputs. All Crown XLS DriveCore 2 amps are covered by a three-year, no-fault fully transferrable warranty.

DriveCore

This innovative amplifier technology merges the drive stage and power output stage into a single, dime-sized chip. Developed from groundbreaking work by Crown's Gerald Stanley, the DriveCore circuitry incorporates five patented advancements in feedback, modulation, and output stage technologies. By combining the efficiency of Class D output stages with exceptional sonic performance, DriveCore’s front-end circuits deliver superior audio quality. The result is an ultra-efficient, all-in-one amplifier circuit that rivals the audio fidelity of a refined Class AB design.

Class-1

Class-I, also known as BCA (Balanced Current Amplifier) is Crown’s patented, cutting-edge technology that gets more power out of an amplifier with less waste than was ever before possible. Class-I technology offers several key advantages. It provides unprecedented efficiency, requiring less power from the AC supply than other designs and that can add up to significant cost savings over the life of the amplifier. Class-I handles reactive loudspeaker loads easily and gracefully, by reusing energy returned from the loudspeaker rather than dissipating it as heat or forcing the amp into premature current limiting.
