Overview

BR-1 Kit Components

This high-end 2-way monitor component kit is based on the popular Dayton Audio BR-1 speaker system, but accommodates builders who want to use their own unique enclosures. Once completed, the speakers will exhibit a sound signature that will rival systems costing two or three times the modest price! Overall, the system is smooth and detailed, with a wide soundstage that belies the speakers' smallish size. The tonal balance is on the warm side of neutral, which is pleasing with most types of music. The bass is also impressive when used with the proper cabinet size and port.

Note: This system contains COMPONENTS ONLY and is offered in kit form. Cabinets need to be constructed or acquired for these components, so woodworking skills may be required. In addition, the crossover needs to be assembled, so soldering skills are necessary. We've included a tutorial that thoroughly explains the theory and design process, making this kit perfect for educational programs. Each kit includes the components needed to build a pair of speakers (excluding the cabinets).

  • Two Dayton Audio DC28F-8 1-1/8" silk dome tweeter
  • Two BR-1XO crossover boards
  • Two 47µF-100V non-polarized capacitors (C3)
  • Two Dayton Audio DFFC-0.10 0.10µF 400V by-pass capacitors (C3)
  • Two Dayton Audio DNR-8.0 8 Ohm 10W non-inductive resistors (R1)
  • Two Dayton Audio DMPC-3.0 3.0µF 250V polypropylene capacitors (C2)
  • Two 1.5 mH 18 AWG perfect layer air core inductors (L2)
  • Two Dayton Audio DMPC-6.2 6.2µF 250V polypropylene capacitors (C1)
  • Two 4 Ohm 5W resistors (R2)
  • Two 6.2 Ohm 5W resistors (R3)
  • Two 0.4 mH ACI 20 AWG air core inductors (L1)
  • One 6 ft. long 16 AWG speaker wire
  • Twenty four 0.205" (16-14) female disconnects
  • Two 24" x 18" sheets of acoustic foam 1-1/2" thick
  • Eight #8 x 3/4" Phillips pan head (for woofer)
  • Fourteen #6 x 3/4" Phillips pan head (for tweeter & cup)
  • One BR-1 instruction manual
